What a joy every day is with all these little puppies right now! Millie's puppies are doing wonderful- they are starting to explore outside their whelping area now- even making friends with our cats! :) Their vet appointment is this coming Friday, and then we'll have families start to choose their new little family members! It's so hard to believe that just 2 weeks later, they will be going to their new homes! Right now- just looking at our list for these first 2 litters- it looks like there are 8 families considering one of Millie's puppies, so there will still be at least 3 available puppies from her litter! We will update the website as each family chooses their puppy, so everyone will know which ones are still available when it's their turn to choose.
We are also going to try to have any families who want to see the puppies in person to choose come this Saturday. I'm going to contact each family individually and let them know that as well :) And we will be updating the website pictures either Friday night or Saturday, so for those that want to choose from pictures, you'll have a current adorable picture of each puppy to pick from!
So in the meantime- if you are hoping for one of Millie's puppies and you read this- send me a quick message letting me know if you are planning to come meet the puppies to choose, or if you are planning to choose from their pictures :)

Esme's puppies are also doing absolutely wonderful! They are turning out to be absolute gorgeous little puppies, and we super excited to watch them grow up! They are almost 3 weeks old now, so in about 1 more week we will get individual pictures of them up on the website as well!

What a busy home we have had these past few weeks! All 11 of Millie's puppies are thriving now! They are eating just puppy chow, sometimes with a little warm puppy formula mixed in, and sometimes just dry. They are all growing beautiful, sharp little teeth, which makes it so much easier for them to start eating. They are drinking water as well, and don't nurse very often anymore. I am so very thankful that each of these little ones has made it and will have the chance to make a family complete soon! We put their "official" colored collars on today, and wanted to share their newest pictures :)

Esme's puppies are doing incredibly well also :) They are beautiful puppies, and are growing so fast! She is such an awesome mom, and she truly loves her little ones... At one week old, they are about the same weight as Millie's were at 3 weeks old! They still sleep most of the time, but in another week their eyes will be open and they'll start motoring around as well!

We've started contacting families regarding whether or not they are interested in a puppy from these first 2 litters, or if they'd prefer to wait until later in the summer- thank you to those of you who have already got back to us! If you haven't heard from us, don't hesitate to send us a message and let us know what you'd like to do :) As of now we have 20 puppies, and just 10 families who we think might want a winter puppy, so we want to keep that as accurate as possible :)

And one more exciting bit of news that quite a few families have been waiting for: Barney officially bred Daisy today! Now we will say some prayers that this year she does get pregnant and has a beautiful litter of puppies- we've been waiting 2 years, and I know a few families have also been very hopeful :) In approximately 35 days we will bring her in for an ultrasound, and hopefully we'll have an exciting update at that time!

February 1, 2019

I'm not sure if I should say good morning or good night, being as it's midnight right now LOL  It's been a busy day! Esme is now the very proud and happy mom of a beautiful litter of 9 puppies! I am SO proud of my daughter, who helped deliver all 9 puppies all by herself! She didn't even wake me up until after puppy number 7 was safely nursing, and then let me have coffee and relax while she helped the last 2 arrive. (did I mention I am SO proud of her?!)
Right now all 9 puppies are doing well, and Esme is tired but happy. She has 4 girls and 5 boys. Of the girls- 2 are tri colored, and 2 are lemon/white .... Of the boys- 1 is tri colored, and 4 are lemon white. Each one is simply beautiful :)

Millie's little ones are still learning how to eat from a pan, and seem to be catching on. The only downside is that they have developed a VERY strong interest in any pan, which includes their mother's food pan and water dish. So now the new thing we watch for is to keep them from going "swimming", which 2 have already tried to do unsuccessfully. After being dried off and cuddled, they are fine, but I don't think they learned a lesson LOL  Little buggers!

We are so excited to say that this morning was the first morning we weighed the puppies that EVERY SINGLE PUPPY gained weight all by themselves since their bottle feeding last night!! That means they nursed enough that they gained just from that! What a HUGE step this is :) They aren't out of the woods yet, but they are getting closer and closer!

I also wanted to take a minute to just go through our process of how we have families choose puppies, since I've had a few emails regarding that. (I'll also answer everyone's emails, but wanted to let everyone know so it will help answer anyone else's questions :)
Once the puppies have reached 6 weeks of age and had their first vet checkups, we will start with family #1 on our winter list. We'll contact them and see if they would like one of Millie's puppies, or if they would rather wait for the next litter to choose from (which would be Esme's). If they decide to wait, they'll stay in their spot on the list, and we'll move to the next family. We will start posting individual pictures of each puppy on the website once they are 5 week old, and we'll update that again at 6 weeks so everyone can have a little better idea who they may want. Once we contact you, we ask that you give us an answer within 48 hours (or sooner is even better!) so we can move to the next family on the list as quickly as possible. We try to keep everything moving along fairly quickly because we know everyone is really excited to be able to choose their new little family member :)
If you are planning to meet the puppies in person in order to choose, we need you to set that up as close to their 6 week mark as possible. I'll post the day they will have their vet checkups as soon as I know, and then any day after that is fine :) If you are a little later on the list, you can still come meet them right away, and just make a list of the order you like them. That way when it's your turn, you'll have a good idea of who you want to choose! This has always worked really well in the past, and it's definitely the most fun time for everyone- being able to finally choose their new family member :)

For those of you who might be interested in a Basset Hound puppy, please feel free to contact us at any time!  Look through our website, and you will find pictures of all our parents, as well as puppies from past litters!

All our puppies will be vet checked, started on shots, and wormed every 2 weeks while they are here. Each puppy comes with full registration (our moms belong to different registries, and they are listed on our Basset Hound page), and a 1 year MN health guarantee against life threatening genetic defects.  We normally allow people on our waiting list to choose their puppies beginning once they are 6 weeks old, and have had their first vet check up. We allow the puppies to leave at 8 weeks. We will keep puppies up to 9 weeks at no additional cost. After 9 weeks a boarding fee of $5/day will be charged.

The 2018-2019 price of all Basset puppies is $700 (both males and females) plus MN state sales tax.   A $200 non-refundable deposit is required to be on the waiting list, and that is good for three years(counting the year you made the deposit). Making a deposit holds your price for 2 years(starting with the year you made your deposit), but the 3rd year your puppy will be the current price listed on the website that year. The remaining balance is due in cash when the puppy goes home at 8 weeks of age. Deposits can be made using the Paypal link here on our puppy page, or also in person. If you send us a deposit, please also send an email letting us know how you'd like to be listed on our waiting list, and if you have a special preference for a puppy! Puppies will be chosen in the order of our list beginning at 6 weeks of age.
(paypal or personal checks are accepted for deposits, but cash only is accepted for the remaining balance when your puppy goes home with you :)
